Help with the Census Test through myGov

Information to help you access and complete the Census Test through myGov.

Complete in your preferred way

If you live in a Census Test area, you may have received a letter or paper form in the mail even if you subscribed to get Census Test updates through myGov.

You can choose to complete the Census Test on behalf of your household in your preferred way.

Who to include on your Census Test form

If you’re filling out the Census Test form for your household, you should include everyone who stayed the night at your home on Census Test night, Tuesday 5 August 2025, including visitors and babies.

If someone in the household would like to complete a separate form for privacy reasons, they can get a Census number to complete online or request a paper form by calling the Census Contact Centre on 1800 181 227.

Find out more about what information you’ll need to do the Census Test.

Away on Census Test night

If you weren’t home or your address was unoccupied on Census Test night, please let us know.

Managing address changes

If your address changed between when you subscribed and Census Test night on Tuesday 5 August 2025, you can update it when completing your online form.

After Census Test night

You’ll only get updates sent to your myGov Inbox that are part of the Census Test.

You’ll get a reminder if you haven’t completed your form by Wednesday 6 August 2025.

After Census Test night, you'll have an opportunity to participate in a survey of subscribers to Census Test updates through myGov. This will help us make improvements ahead of the 2026 Census.

myGov will automatically end this subscription for you when testing ends on 28 October 2025. This means all mGov Inbox messages you get from the ABS as part of the Census Test will be removed from your inbox.

Look out for communication ahead of the 2026 Census on subscribing to get Census updates through myGov.
