There are a variety of jobs you can apply for near you. These jobs may include delivering Census instructions and forms, answering questions from the public, and assisting households that have not yet responded. Some positions could also involve managing a small team of people on the ground.

What are we looking for

We need a range of people with different experiences, including experience supervising small teams for our Field Manager jobs, and customer service experience for our Field Officer jobs.

We’re also looking for people who can speak a language other than English, as well as people with experience working with diverse population groups including:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • people with disability
  • people experiencing homelessness
  • youth or older Australians.

Job details

The ABS is looking for people who:

  • are available to complete paid online training prior to starting work in the field
  • are available to work variable hours for the period of the contract, including weekdays, weekends and evenings
  • are keen to earn extra income in a short-term job
  • want to help make a difference for their community.

For Field Officer jobs, there's no experience needed. The ABS provides all the necessary training, and staff will be supervised and supported to complete the work.

Application Process

Submit an online application form. No resume required!

A selection process will be conducted, which may require job applicants to complete an interview either face to face or virtually, depending on the role.

Applicants being considered for employment will need to complete a national police check. A criminal history does not necessarily exclude you from being considered for employment.
