Subscribing to Census Test updates through myGov

For the first time, you’ll be able to subscribe to access the 2026 Census through myGov.

This new option is being introduced to make it easy to get updates and access the Census online. This will be just one way for your household to complete the 2026 Census.

Before each Census, it’s important to test how we'll run it. The Census Test helps ensure our systems and processes are ready. We’re trialling the new myGov option as part of the Census Test.

Participation in the Census Test is important and will help us improve the next Census.

How to subscribe

All myGov users can subscribe to get Census Test updates through myGov.

Only one person per household needs to subscribe to Census Test updates.

You can subscribe to Census Test updates through myGov from Tuesday 15 July to Monday 21 July 2025. 

You’ll need to enter the address where you’ll stay the night on Tuesday 5 August 2025 and agree to share this address with the ABS.

You’ll get updates and a link to the online form sent to your myGov Inbox when it’s time to complete the Census Test.

Unsubscribing from myGov updates

When you’re subscribed, you’ll only get updates sent to your myGov Inbox that are part of the Census Test. 

You can choose to unsubscribe from Census Test updates at any time.

Keeping your information safe

Be wary of scammers who try to trick you into sharing your myGov sign in details through fake myGov websites. 

myGov won’t send you an email or SMS with a link or a QR code to sign in to myGov.

Always sign in to myGov using the official myGov app or enter my.gov.au into your browser. 

After you sign in to myGov, messages in your myGov Inbox are secure. You’ll get a link to the online form sent to your myGov Inbox when it’s time to complete the Census Test.
