How to answer these questions

  • ‘Usually lives’ means the person has lived, or intends to live, at this address for a total of 6 months or more in 2025.
  • Include anyone that usually lives at the dwelling but was away on Census Test night.
  • Examples of being away are:
    • people away on holiday, including people who are overseas
    • people away for work, in hospital or away for another reason overnight or longer
    • people staying with relatives or friends
    • students away at boarding school
    • children in shared care arrangements staying elsewhere on Tuesday 5 August 2025.
  • Online form only: If no one was away select ‘No one away’ for Question 4 and enter ‘0’ for Question 5.
